This listing is for one book: "the Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook" by Susan Briscoe. This is a paperback book.
This book truly lives up to it's name by providing an extensive pattern library of Moyosashi patterns, motifs and Hitomezashi sashiko patterns. The pattern library provides a description and meaning for each design as well as a detailed drawing of the pattern with arrows showing the direction and order of stitching. Drawings of popular motifs are also shown however these drawing will have to be copied and enlarged before use.
The book also contains a history on sashiko as well as a techniques section. The techniques section includes sections on how to mark the sashiko patterns, tacking (basting) the fabrics, using sashiko thread, how to start and stop your sashiko stitching and how to perform the basic sashiko stitch technique. It also provides information on how to create different sized sashiko grids for making your sashiko designs.
Instructions for 10 projects using sashiko techniques can be seen in "The Projects" section. These projects are suitable for beginner and more experienced sashiko artists. Some sewing experience is required to complete the projects however most projects need little to no sewing experience. Construction diagrams are provided showing how to sew and complete projects. The book does not contain any sewing patterns but provides clear instructions and diagrams for the project.
