Japanese Kanzashi Tsumami book by Tsuyu Tsuki, - Hair ornaments and accessories for ceremony

This listing is for one book that explains how to create tsumami kanzashi and small tsumami accessories. This is a paperback book. The book is written entirely in Japanese.
ISBN: 978-4-529-05459-1

Tsumami kanzashi translates to "folded fabric hair ornament". In this Japanese technique, small squares of fabric are folded to create beautiful accessories. This beautiful book shows how to create tsumami kanzashi as well as tsumami (folded fabric) accessories, such as pins, brooches, necklaces, earrings and decorative accents. This is the second book by Tsuyu Tsuki and it does build a bit on her first book. However, I believe that anyone with some experience creating tsumami kanzashi can follow along. This book does not focus too much on creating the bases so If you are new to creating tsumami kanzashi I recommend the "Japanese Tsumami Kanzashi craft book - Hair ornaments and small accessories" book seen here:

This book is written entirely in Japanese but the step-by-step instructions are accompanied by beautiful photographs that clearly show how each flower type is created. The two main folding techniques (pointed and rounded petal) are also shown in a step-by-step fashion with photographs. The book also shows how to create the bases for the flower. Some of these step-by-step instructions are black and white drawings and not actual photographs.

The book includes a cut-out "petal placement guide sheet" that can be placed in a CD case. This guide sheet allows you to line up your petals with the guide lines so that they are evenly spaced and the finished flower is symmetrical.

Photos 3 shows the flower designs that are in this book. Each item is then created using a combination of these flower designs. This book focuses on accessories for wedding and coming-of-age ceremony. There are very beautiful designs for wedding bouquets and traditional hair pins.

The finished size of each design can be changed by using different sized fabric squares. Once you have gained experience with the folding techniques you can easily create items out of various fabric types or combine petal and/or designs to create a unique design of your own. The book does have photos of how some flowers look when created out of various types of fabrics including cottons, velveteen and traditional Japanese chirimen.
