Vintage blue-green Japanese tsumugi pongee silk with woven floral abstract design - by the yard

This listing is for one yard (36 inches or 91.33cm) of fabric. There are multiple yards available. If more than one yard is purchased then you will receive the entire yardage as one complete length.

This beautiful silk fabric is unused, vintage stock and would make an amazing quilt, pillow case or table runner. It can also be used for apparel but please remember that kimono fabric is not as wide as other fabrics. The fabric is in excellent condition. This fabric has not been laundered. This fabric has a storage smell (mothball). Hanging the fabric in fresh air will help to elimate and/or remove this smell. Dry fabric can also be placed in clothes dryer on "hot" cycle to help remove odor. Fabric can also be hand laundered in cool water however this may cause a change in the texture of the fabric and intensity of the color.

This silk fabric has a light blue and white colored, woven abstract floral design over a blue-green-gray hued background. The last photo shows the colors most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for color comparison. The fabric is showing much more gray colored on my laptop screen than seen in person. It is showing much more accurately on my phone screen. The blue-green colored Crayola brand crayon closely matches the color of the fabric. If you are trying to coordinate this fabric with another I highly suggest requesting a sample. There is no charge for small, 2x2 inch samples.

The pattern on this fabric is woven therefore both sides of the fabric have an identical (although reversed) design.

Typical of tsumugi, this fabric is highly textured and has slubbing. The fabric has a wonderful "bumpy" texture. Tsumugi is created out of "waste silk" that is pre-dyed prior to weaving. This "waste silk" creates the slubbing and texture that is associated with tsumugi. Traditionally the weft threads of tsumugi are black. The weft threads of this fabric appear to a blue-grey color while the warp thread appear to be more blue colored. This creates a fabric that has a dynamic color that changes depending on the light source. The color of the fabric can appear to be a medium blue-green to a blue-gray color. The weft threads are slightly thicker, with more slubbing than the warp threads. This also helps to create the wonderful texture of this fabric.

Tsumugi silk is difficult to wrinkle and generally has a crisp drape that becomes more flowing with use.

*I am always willing to provide more information or pictures regarding my fabrics or using/sewing these fabrics. Please do not hesitate to send me a convo if you have any questions.*

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks in addition to those noted in the description. This item has been stored for many years and has a storage smell. Allowing the fabric to hang out in the fresh air will help to reduce and/or eliminate this odor. Dry fabric can also be placed in clothes dryer on "hot" cycle to help eliminate odor
