Vintage, Japanese kasuri ikat cotton fabric - by the yard - pale blue, red and yellow cross-hatches - 26 inch remnant

Sorry, this item has sold.

This listing is for 26 inches (66cm) of fabric. This is the last piece of this fabric available. The fabric measure 26 inches (66cm) long x 13 7/8 inches (34.2cm) wide.

This kasuri fabric is unused, vintage stock from the 1960's - 1970's. It is is excellent condition and would be perfect for use in boro and sashiko projects. It can also be used for smaller items such as doll clothing, small accent pillow, hair accessories, bags or coin purses. Visit my blog for ideas on how to use kasuri fabrics:

Kasuri, also called Ikat, is created by weaving together threads that have been pre-dyed with a pattern. The threads are then woven together and the pattern will be shown in the fabric. This fabric is "tateyokogasuri" kasuri as it uses both warp and weft threads that have been dyed to create the pattern.

The cotton fabric has a black and blue background with a woven design of sky blue, red and yellow green colored, abstract crosshatches. Please see the last photo for the best representation of the colors. Crayola brand crayons are placed in the photo for a color comparison. Please note that the background is a black color with deep (nearly black) blue areas. The blue areas are very difficult to see and they appear to be in a striped pattern. They can most easily be seen in the first photo. I do not know if this was an intentional pattern or caused by natural dying variations.

Unused, kasuri fabric has an extremely stiff drape. This fabric should become more fluid with use. Please also note that this fabric has a slightly open weave. This can be most easily seen in the 8th photo where light can be seen showing through the fabric.

Item specifics:

-13 7/8 inches (34.2cm) wide

- Light to medium weight cotton fabric

-Extremely stiff drape.

-slight texture due to open weave

-100% cotton or primarily cotton

**When ironing it is recommended that cotton cloth be placed between the iron and the fabric to prevent shiny, burnished areas from being formed**

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks in addition to those noted in the description. This item has been stored for many years so there may be a slight storage smell although I do not notice any.
