This listing is for one yard (36 inches or 91.33cm) of fabric. There are multiple yards available. If more than one yard is purchased then you will receive the entire yardage as one complete length.
This beautiful, omeshi crepe fabric is unused, vintage stock. There are some flaws and discoloration in this silk. Please read the description carefully to learn about these flaws. This silk would make an amazing quilt, cushion cover, accessory or table runner. It can be used for apparel but please remember that kimono fabric is not as wide as other fabrics.
This silk fabric has a woven design of goldenrod yellow, orange-red, slate blue, green and turquoise blue ivy leaves over a creme colored background. A deep gray is used to create the ivy branches. The last photo shows the colors most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for color comparison.The colors and design of this silk would make this fabric perfect for an autumnal table runner or accessory.
Omeshi is a type of chirimen crepe silk. Unlike chirimen, omeshi is woven out of pre-dyed threads using the Ikat (kasuri) technique. The pattern is created where these dyed sections of the warp and weft threads are woven together.
Omeshi has a much stiffer drape and hand than other chirimen crepe fabrics. It has a wonderful "orange peel" texture and slight sheen.
**This fabric has some age related yellowing. This yellowing is most noticeable on the selvage edges. A close-up of this yellowing can be seen in the 7th photo. The yellowing extends about 1.5 - 2 inches (3.8 - 5.1 cm) from EACH selvage edge. The black arrow is pointing to a yellow age spot.
**Smaller age spots and dark spots, due to inconsistencies in the silk, are also seen in the fabric. An example of two of these spots can be seen in the 8th photo. These spots are seen in the middle portion of the fabric. There are about 0-3 spots in each yard of fabric.
Please note that there are some areas where the dyed threads did not line up correctly. Some of these areas can be see in the 9th photo. These areas are throughout the fabric and are not stains. This is typical of ikat designs.

I have washed this omeshi silk HOWEVER the silk will become more textured and shrink width-wise. This is due to the twists in the weft threads becoming even tighter. The effect is not unpleasant, just different. I suggest washing in cool water with silk detergent and laying flat or hanging to dry. Iron the silk while it is still damp using the silk - steam setting on your iron. Place a pressing cloth between the iron and silk. I suggest washing a sample first to see if you like the outcome.

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks although in addition to those noted in the description. This item has been stored for many years so there may be a slight storage smell although I do not notice one.
