Vintage, Japanese, synthetic tsumugi pongee dupioni fabric- deep rose-maroon color

This listing is for one yard (36 inches or 91.33cm) of fabric. There are multiple yards available. If more than one yard is purchased then you will receive the entire yardage as one complete length.

This is a vintage, synthetic blend, tsumugi pongee shot fabric. The fabric is in excellent condition. I do not see any stains or holes in this fabric.

This fabric was intended for use as a cushion cover (Zabuton). It can also be used for crafts, accessories or curtains. This fabric can also be used for apparel but please remember that kimono fabric is not as wide as other fabrics.

This fabric has a pink-maroon hue. The warp and weft threads are different colors (called shot fabric) giving the fabric a wonderful depth of color. The weft threads are thicker and help to imitate the characteristic "slubbing" that is seen in tsumugi, pongee, and dupioni silks. Traditionally the weft threads of tsumugi are black. The weft threads of this fabric are a black color while the warp threads are a mauve-rose color. This creates a fabric that has a deep rose-maroon color. The color is difficult to describe and it is very dynamic changing from a deeper rose-maroon hue to a lighter pink-rose hue depending on the reflection of the light.

The black weft threads are thicker, with more slubbing, than the rose colored, smooth warp threads. The different textures, fibers and colors of these threads all help to create a fabric that has a great depth of color that changes in the light.

The last photo shows the colors most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for color comparison. Please remember that the color of this silk is very dynamic and will change depending on the reflection of the light. If you are trying to match this fabric to another item I highly suggest requesting a sample.

Fabric specifics:

-Fabric is 24.5 inches (62.2 cm) wide.

-medium weight

-synthetic. I believe that this is a blend of rayon, triacetate, and acrylic/modacrylic

-Little to no stretch

-slightly crisp drape

-slubbing (bumps) that create a slightly bumpy texture

-medium to high sheen similar to shot or dupioni silk

-holds crease/pleat well. I ironed fabric on the " cotton blend" setting of my iron. I recommend placing a pressing cloth over the fabric to prevent scorching or discoloration of the fabric.

*I am always willing to provide more information or pictures regarding my fabrics or using/sewing these fabrics. Please do not hesitate to send me a convo if you have any questions.*

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks although, I do not see any. This item has been stored for many years so there may be a slight storage smell. I do not notice one.

Fabric is so beautiful! Pictures very accurately represent the color (which can be hard sometimes). Can’t wait to use this for my art projects!
