yellow and pink furisode kimono fabric panel - pink, yellow and lavender cherry blossom sakura
This beautiful silk fabric was part of an unfinished furisode kimono. The furisode kimono is traditionally worn by young, unmarried women and is one of the most beautiful and decorated kimono. This silk was basted together into the kimono form but was not finished. Because of this the fabric has tiny pinholes and creases. There are also gray, pen marks on the selvages. These marks were made by the seamstress and are only on the selvage and should not affect how the silk can be used. These marks do not extend more than .5 inches (1.3cm) from the selvage.

This silk would make an amazing scarf, wrap, hair accessory, pillow case or skirt. It can be used for apparel but please remember that kimono fabric is not as wide as other fabrics.
This fabric was a body panel of the kimono. It went up one side of the front of the kimono, over the shoulder and down the back. The entire panel is about 142 inches (361cm) long x about 14.75 inches (37.5 cm) wide. This panel has no cuts in it (as many panels from finished kimono often do).
The panel is primarily a yellow color. It graduates to a light green-yellow on one end and it graduates to a lighter green-yellow and then a pink color on the other end of the panel. Each end of the panel has a printed pattern of lavender, pink and white sakura (cherry blossoms). There is also a small printed portion in the center of the panel. Photos 1-3 show the printed portions of the panel. The rest of the panel is a solid, yellow color.
Photo 2 shows the first end of the panel. This floral section is the longest and measures about 25 inches (63.5cm) long x 14.75 inches (37.5cm) wide. A Close-up of this printed area can be seen in photo 5.
Photo 4 shows the second largest printed area of the panel. It measures about 12 inches (30.5cm) x 14.75 inches (37.5 cm) wide.
This panel has some flaws:
1) The panel has a light colored soil line where the silk was folded over. This extends down the length of the panel. Photo 7 shows a portion of this line.
2) The flowers that were located on this folded line have some damage where the paint has rubbed off at that fold line. Two flowers (photo 8) were damaged on the end with the longest printed floral area and 1 (not shown) flower was damaged on the other end of the panel.
3) There is one small, pin-point, dark spot between fold line and the selvage edge on the end of the panel shown in photo 4
4) There is a faint soil line that extends across the panel where it was folded. This can be seen above the small, printed area in photo 3. This line is about 71 inches (180cm) from one end of the panel.
The silk is a chirimen (crepe) type silk and it has a wonderful "orange peel" texture and a slight sheen. It is a medium weight and has a nice drape. Please enlarge the photos to see this texture. The last two photos show the color of the silk most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photos for color comparison. Please remember that the yellow color graduates from a deeper yellow to a paler green-yellow color.
I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks in addition to those noted in the description. This item has been stored for many years so there may be a slight storage smell although I do not notice any.
