Pale lilac colored tsumugi Silk haori Fabric with floral design - by the yard

This listing is for one yard (36 inches or 91.33cm) of fabric. There are multiple yards available. If more than one yard is purchased then you will receive the entire yardage as one complete length.

This beautiful silk haori (kimono jacket) fabric is unused, vintage stock and would make an amazing quilt, pillow case or table runner. It can also be used for apparel but please remember that kimono and haori fabric is not as wide as other fabrics. The fabric is in excellent shape. This fabric has not been laundered.

This silk fabric has a woven pattern of flowers and stripes over a pale lilac (pink with purple hue) colored background. The flowers are woven in hues of yellow, brown, red, blue and green. The stripes are also in hues of red, green and yellow. The last photo shows the colors most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for color comparison.

The pattern on this fabric is woven therefore both sides of the fabric have an identical (although reversed) design. The edges of the woven patterns on this tsumugi are not crisp, giving the pattern almost an abstract appearance. Please enlarge the photos to see the wonderful texture and color of the silk.

Typical of tsumugi, this fabric is highly textured and has slubbing. Tsumugi is created out of pre-dyed threads that are then woven to create a design. The warp and weft threads are different colors (called shot fabric) giving the fabric a wonderful depth of color. Traditionally the weft threads of tsumugi are black. The weft threads of this fabric are white while the warp threads are a pale lilac color. This creates a a pale lilac-pink color fabric. The white weft threads are also a heavier, with more slubbing, than the pale lilac, smooth warp threads.

Tsumugi silk usually has a stiff drape that becomes more fluid with use. It is also difficult to wrinkle. This silk is a little more fluid than other tsumugi silks that I offer due to it having a slightly more open weave.

Raw silk is used to create tsumugi fabric. This gives the fabric a "cotton-like" feeling.

-The pattern repeats about every 22 inches (55.9 cm)
