This listing is for one pre-printed sashiko sampler panel in a golden brown, teal or red color. The pattern washes out of the cloth with water. Please use the pull-down box to select the color panel you would like to purchase.
This panel was created by Olympus Japan for BeBe Bold of Australia. The panel features floral crests and grasses printed with water soluble ink over Olympus' Tsumugi Kofu
Olympus' tsumugi is a gorgeous fabric that is created in a similar manner to that of silk tsumugi fabrics. The warp threads of the fabrics are black while the weft threads are either gold-brown, grayish-green or red creating a golden brown, teal or deep red hued fabric. The light to medium weight cotton has natural slubbing giving the fabric a wonderful texture. The fabric has a subtle sheen and soft, woven texture. The different colored warp and weft threads provide the fabric with a wonderful depth of color that changes depending on the light source. These tsumugi cottons are absolutely gorgeous!
The entire cloth measures about 43 inches tall x 23.75 inches wide (110 cm tall x 60 cm wide).
The cloth has the following printed portions:
-5 larger crests. Each of these crests measures about 6 inches (15.3 cm) in diameter.
-8 smaller squares that have floral and water designs. Each of these squares measures about 4 inches x 4 inches (10.2 cm x 10.2 cm)
5 sections of water reeds or grasses are interspersed between the large crests.
This cloth would be perfect for a noren, curtain, table runner, cushion cover or hanging display piece. Each square can be used separately to create a quilt or a series of smaller items.
Please refer to the last 3 photos for the most accurate representation of the colors available. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photos for a color comparison. You may select the color you would like using the pull-down menu.
Photo 7: Golden Brown Tsumugi
Photo 8: Teal Tsumugi
Photo 9: Deep red tsumugi. This color matches the color of the red-violet colored Crayola brand crayon very closely.
All fabrics are 100% cotton and are made in Japan.
Do NOT iron the fabric prior to removing the pre-printed pattern or the pattern may not wash out completely.
To remove markings:
*Do not iron or get the cloth wet until the stitching is completed.
*Hand wash in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
*Iron while still moist on low temperature. Place sashiko cloth face down onto folded bath towel, prior to ironing, to prevent the stitching from being flattened.
Please note that if you order a large number of thread or small items the shipping weight may be overestimated. Be assured that I always refund shipping cost overages of $1.00 or more. You may also wish to contact me so that I can set up a special order for you, which will have the accurate combined shipping costs. I do not charge handling or packaging fees.
