This is a new, TRUE indigo dyed fabric that was created in Japan. The fabric is 100% cotton. It is of a medium weight that is similar to a lightweight cotton canvas.

The fabric has a wonderful woven texture with some slubbing (bumps) and wrinkles.

This is a yarn dyed fabric. Yarn dyed fabrics are created from yarn that is dyed BEFORE weaving it into fabric. Due to this, the fabric has a wonderful variegation and depth of color. The yarn used to create this fabric was dyed with natural, botanical indigo.

The fabric would be suitable for home decor items, apparel, quilting, "boro" pouches and accessories. The slightly open weave makes it perfect for sashiko.

The last photo shows the color most accurately. Crayola brand crayons are shown for a color comparison.

Please note that botanical indigo dyed items will often bleed or transfer color to other items. This can be reduced by prewashing the fabric. White sashiko thread may be dyed blue when it is used and washed with this fabric. Indigo dyed items can also transfer color (even if dry) to lighter colored fabrics so it is not recommended for use for home accessories (like cushion covers) that may be placed on lighter colored furniture or where the indigo fabric will rub against a lighter colored fabric.

Fabric specifics:

-Fabric is 46 inches (119 cm) wide.

- medium weight with slightly open weave, slightly crisp drape and little to no sheen

-100% cotton

As with all aizome fabrics it is best to place a cloth over the fabric prior to ironing. This will prevent the iron from creating shiny areas on the fabric.

*I am always willing to provide more information or pictures regarding my fabrics or using/sewing these fabrics. Please do not hesitate to send me a convo if you have any questions.*

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor.
