This hair clip was created with an antique beaded applique and black feathers. The applique was created about 1920 to 1940 and features green, clear and silver colored glass beads. As with most appliques, the beads were sewn onto a netted backing. The applique sparkles in the light and would make a stunning and unique accessory for anyone attending a special occasion.
The back of the applique is covered in black felt so that it is sturdy and secure. An "alligator" type hair clip is used to secure the clip to your hair. The clip can also be used to secure the hair piece to a hairband. The clip portion is about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) long and the entire hair clip measures just under 2 inches (5.08 cm) long.
The entire hair piece is just about 0.6 ounces in weight and measures about 7.5 inches (19 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7cm) wide (with feathers). The beaded applique measures about 3 inches in diameter.
This beaded applique is very old therefore there is some discoloration of some of the beads. There may also be small flaws in the applique itself. I do not believe these flaws distract from the overall look of the piece but add to the authenticity and vintage look.
This piece is meant for adults and responsible young adults. Children can wear this item but please be aware that stepping on it, bending the appliqué, cutting it or getting it wet will damage it.
