Vintage yukata cotton or kimono silk strips for sakiori saori rag weaving weft and other crafts

These strips are made out of vintage Japanese yukata cotton OR vintage, kimono silk. These yukata and kimono were not wearable so I took them apart and created yarn for sakiori (rag weaving). This cotton or silk yarn can be used for weaving, junk Journaling, art quilts or other crafts. These fabrics were laundered before creating the strips however there may be occasional spots, yellowing or other flaws.

Please note that each skein of yarn is a different length and that it is continuous however it was made in the traditional manner in which a single, wide, shorter length of fabric is cut into many thinner strips but the ends of the fabric are not cut. This makes a continuous length of yarn with "turning" points every so often. One of these "turning points" can be seen in the 2nd photo. When weaving, these areas can be tucked under neatly or used to create an interesting slub texture in your piece. If you pull these sections too hard they will rip apart and you will not have a continuous section of fabric.

The yarn was cut in 2 widths: 8mm and 5mm. The fabric was cut using a Saori strip cutter and these are approximate widths. Because this is cut by hand the width will vary over the length of the yarn. This is reclaimed fabric and it is NOT uniform in width. Some edges will also fray more than others. All these factors help you to create a unique piece of art whether you are using this yarn to create a woven rag project, Saori, art quilt or journal.

Please choose a style, width and length using the pull down menu.

Style A Silk Kimono fabric - horizontal stripes in hues of purple, violet and white. Please note that this silk tends to fray. The fraying should stop after the strips are woven into a fabric but you may need to trim off the frayed threads after weaving if you do not wish them to be seen.

Style B cotton yukata fabric- Pinky-orange and green floral over dark indigo blue hued background. This yarn is mostly a dark indigo blue with sparse amount of design

Style C cotton yukata fabric- White, Robin's Egg Blue, Pinky-orange and green floral over dark indigo blue background

Style D cotton yukata fabric- Muted pink grape pattern with white and gray foliate over deep indigo blue background

Style E Silk Kimono fabric - horizontal stripes in hues of pink, violet and fuchsia. The fraying should stop after the strips are woven into a fabric but you may need to trim off the frayed threads after weaving if you do not wish them to be seen.

Style F Silk kimono fabric - blue and off-white abstract scarecrow pattern. Please note that the reverse side of this silk is a lighter color than the front side. This silk also has some areas of significant fading. This is a crepe type silk and it is of a medium weight.

The last photo shows some fabric that I wove using 2 picks (rows) of yarn and 1 pick of vintage, yukata cotton strips. The yukata strips were made out of a white yukata cotton with floral pattern.

Please note that if you order a large number of items that the shipping weight may be overestimated. I always refund shipping charge overages of $1.00 USD or more.

*I am always willing to provide more information or pictures regarding my fabrics or using/sewing these fabrics. Please do not hesitate to send me a convo if you have any questions.*

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor.
