Sorry, this item has sold.

This listing is for one book: "Japanese Sashiko Inspirations - 25 ways to explore traditional sashiko technique" by Susan Briscoe. This is a paperback book.
ISBN: 0715326414

This visually beautifully book is filled with wonderful projects using various sashiko techniques as well as inspirational ideas and photos. Although this book does include an introduction to the techniques and supplies needed for sashiko it is more suitable for those who have some sashiko experience and wish to create larger and more advanced projects. Projects also require experience with sewing, although those with limited sewing experience would be able to complete the projects as written instructions and diagrams are included for each project.

The book also contains a history on sashiko as well as a techniques section. The techniques section includes sections on how to mark the sashiko patterns, tacking (basting) the fabrics, using sashiko thread, how to start and stop your sashiko stitching and how to perform the basic sashiko stitch technique. It also provides information on how to create different sized sashiko grids for making your sashiko designs, although this imformation is very limited. For those who wish to learn how to draw sashiko grids and patterns I suggest purchasing "the Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook" seen here:

Motif drawings used for the sashiko projects are included however these drawing will have to be copied and enlarged before being transferred to fabric for sashiko stitching.

Each project is accompanied by a smaller "taster" project that allow you to experiment with thread, fabric and techniques before starting the larger, main project. Each project also includes photographs of traditional Japanese pieces/fabrics that helped to inspire the project. Construction diagrams are provided showing how to sew and complete the "taster" and larger projects. The book does not contain any sewing patterns but provides clear instructions and diagrams for the project.
