This listing is for kakishibu dyed cotton trim. There are multiple yards available. Item can be purchased in 1 yard (36 inch), 2 yard (72 inch) and 5 yard (180 inch) increments. You will receive the entire yardage as one complete length. If you would like a different or larger amount please contact me and I can set up a special listing for you.
This vintage, cotton tape trim is 1/8 inch wide. The trim is flat and not rounded. I hand - dyed the trim with kakishibu (persimmon tannin). This imparts a beautiful brown-tan color on the cotton. It has a lovely organic hue that will darken with age and use.
The kaki-Shibu dye also acts as an insect deterrent and prevents mold. Fishing nets and stencil paper are also often dyed with kakishibu due to these reasons.
The color of kakishibu dyed items will gradually change due to exposure to ultra-violet rays, oxidation, temperature and humidity, therefore the color will vary throughout the trim itself and over time it will change. Please note that the color of the trim you receive may vary slightly when compared to the photos.
I dyed this trim to use as drawstring for komebukuro (rice bags) but it can be used for other projects such as art quilting, clothing, bag making and accessories.
The trim has a fairly stiff drape, due to the kakishibu, and it has a smooth, woven texture.
Please note that when multiple yards are added to the shopping cart, shipping cost may be overestimated. Please be assured that I always refund shipping cost overages greater than $1.00
