Deep indigo violet silk furisode kimono body fabric panel - falling sakura cherry blossoms
This beautiful silk fabric was part of an unfinished furisode kimono. The furisode kimono is traditionally worn by young, unmarried women and is one of the most beautiful and decorated kimono. This silk was basted together into the kimono form but was not finished. Because of this the fabric has tiny pinholes and creases. There are also small notation marks along the selvage. These marks were made by the seamstress and are only on the selvage and should not affect how the silk can be used. These marks do not extend more than .5 inches (1.3cm) from the selvage.
These silk panels are perfect for creating home accessories, formal wraps or even quilts.
** This panel is in excellent condition but there are some flaws. Please read the description carefully to learn about these flaws **
This fabric was a body panel of the kimono. It went up one side of the front of the kimono, over the shoulder and down the back. The entire panel is about 153 inches (389cm) long x about 15.25 inches (39 cm) wide. This panel has no cuts in it (as many panels from finished kimono often do). Please note that the designs do not face all the same direction. All designs are printed so that they are facing the correct direction when the center of the panel is placed on the shoulder.
The entire panel is seen in photos 2 through 5. The panel was too long to fit into one photo.
The panel is a deep indigo color. This indigo blue color has deep violet undertones that are more or less noticeable depending on the light. Sections of the panel have a printed pattern of yellow, sky blue, pink and light green sakura (cherry blossoms) blossoms and petals. The non-printed areas of the panel are the solid blue indigo color.
Photo 2 shows the first printed section of the panel. This area starts about 6 inches (15.2cm) from the end of the panel. The printed area is about 15 inches long (38 cm) and features printed sakura and dyed areas in hues of aqua and lavender-mauve. I did not see any flaws on this section. A close up of this section can be seen in the 6th photo.
After this printed area is about 36 inches (91.4cm) of solid blue indigo colored silk.
Photo 3 and 4 shows the second printed area. This printed area is about 22 inches (55.9cm) long.
**This area has one flaw that can be seen in the 4th and 7th photos. ** Due to exposure to the light the silk has changed color creating a darker line across the fabric about 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) above the top-most yellow sakura blossom. A close up of this can be seen in photo 7. This darker line extends across the panel width.
This printed area is followed by about 55 inches (139.7cm) of solid blue indigo colored silk.
Photo 4 shows the last printed area. This area is about 13 inches (33cm) long. **Due to exposure to the light the silk has changed color at a crease line** This can be seen Photo 8. The most noticeable color change is pointed out by the arrow.
This last printed area is following by about 12 inches (30.5cm) of solid blue colored silk.
This is a rinzu (damask) chirimen style silk that has a subtle sheen and a wonderful texture. When the light reflects off the silk a woven pattern of sakura blossoms and petals can be seen. This silk is of medium weight and has a slightly fluid drape. The printed portion of the panel has a slightly stiffer drape.
The last photo shows the color of the silk most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for color comparison.

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage fabric so there may be small blemishes or marks in addition to those noted in the description. This fabric has not been laundered so it could have a slight storage smell, although I do not note any.
